Science Fiction Romance

The Freedomverse is a future universe where humans have advanced past their own planet and spread out in the galaxy. In the universe around them, they've connected with aliens both humanoid and otherwise. Technology and artificial intelligence have advanced greatly over time, and with the aid of alien species, they have changed a lot about their daily lives. Earth’s government has been consolidated under the United Earth Government, and war between humans has become a thing of the past. Corporations were brought into check by the government, evening the playing field for most people. Universal Basic Income has become the norm, and all humans are provided with the necessities of daily living. Should one put in work, upgrades to the basic offerings of the government are offered. Education is fully provided for everyone who wants to pursue it, and people work willingly to improve their quality of life and that of others. Human society has advanced to a point where sexualities, genders, and sexual freedom are celebrated.

The world is not without its problems, however. Corporations attempt to influence governments despite restrictions, and secret societies of humans that take advantage of both human and alien alike have arisen in the broader universe. There are aliens who feel that humans do not deserve a place at the forefront of the galaxy, and there are other evils in the universe that humans have not even imagined.

The stories of the Freedomverse focus on heroes who root out the negative aspects of the universe and help those who have been harmed by them heal.

The Nexus Chronicles is a post apocalyptic future in 2172 where humanity has allowed science to delve too far into the space between worlds. Thinking they were tapping into an unlimited energy source in the quantum realm, they burrowed through spacetime and ended up tearing through the Nexus. 

The resulting implosion led to the tearing of the barriers between Earth and four other realms: Dark, Verdant, Echo, and Storm. Creatures and beings (Realmers) come through, and for some reason, cannot return home. With the aggressive and dangerous new creatures, many are killed and towns and cities destroyed before humans can organize and build walled cities to protect themselves from them. 

Twenty years later, the son of a man who voiced concern that the mission for energy was dangerous named Alastair, roams the world with knowledge of how to possibly fix it. However, he doubts the world is worth saving, and instead becomes a gunslinger for the Earth Defense Shield, a worldwide organization that polices much of the activity related to the Realmers and their creature kin.

Then he rescues Wicker, a Realmer that defies all that he knows. Unexpectedly drawn to him, Alastair keeps him close, and takes on missions that begin to come back to his father's work. The question is, does he save the world, or let it die?
